Overall purpose of role

Level 2 Senior Network Operations is accountable for service stability and recovery involving network infrastructure. Runs regional day to day operations across 21 network technology products and ensuring that change activities are planned, implemented and handed over without service impact.

Key Accountabilities

Responsible for Level 2 network operations, managing day to day support for the stability of the global Data Network Infrastructure, Firewall, load balancing, Edge Connect, DCLAN, Wireless, NAC, Remote Access such as SASE, MyWorkspace and Any connect, Network Segmentation, etc.

The primary function of the role will be to identify, determine and resolve these issues on an as required basis. In addition to these abilities the role will have:

  • Able to identify possible network affecting situations, applying fixes and working on postmortem reports for stakeholder management.
  • Be capable of liaising with other technology, business areas and 3rd party vendors in pursuit of resolving the problem or communicating progress.
  • Having the ability to assess existing network infrastructure, review, amend and drive service improvement plan for problematic network areas.
  • The capability to identify possible network affecting situations, faulty hardware or logical problems.
  • Responsible for quality of changes aligned to level 2 support, structuring implementation details and ensuring that the team adheres to change management process at all times.
  • Responsible for problem management involving level 2 function, ensuring actions are owned and closed. Ascertain root cause and document actions to prevent any recurrence for greater stability of services.
  • Accountable for lifecycle management of all network products by scheduling activities, ensuring maintenance is communicated across functions and handed over to operations within service impact to the business.

Stakeholder Management and Leadership

  • Leadership responsibility for managing and developing a diverse team of talented support engineers, in addition to providing thought leadership, mentorship, coaching and driving execution excellence.
  • Working within wider programs to successfully deliver product change and program objectives.
  • Provide SME consultancy on technical and domain matters to senior business and technology stakeholders.
  • Manage the regular communications and updates to the key business and technology stakeholders.
  • Manage and maintain relationships which external vendors, contributing to contract renewals, product and license management.

Decision-making and Problem Solving

  • Solve operational issues through troubleshooting and incident resolution
  • Act as a gatekeeper for changes which goes into production
  • Implement changes according to stakeholder requirements
  • Act as an owner for network inventory

Risk and Control Objective

Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Policies and Policy Standards.

Essential Experience:

  • Experience of Network Operational Support within a large institution or bank
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex network related issues
  • Ability to deal with stakeholders at all levels and to work in pressurised situations
  • Solid understanding and experience of F5 load-balancing platforms, including integration with external services
  • Good working knowledge of DNS / DHCP using Infoblox products
  • Good working knowledge of Proxy related products, including integration with external services
  • Good working knowledge of TCP, SSL and be able to fault find using tcpdump, Wireshark, log trace and live debug
  • Working knowledge of LAN and WAN technologies / protocols (Cisco ACI, NX-OS, SD-WAN, BGP, OSPF)
  • Working knowledge of core networks, transport, internet and firewall platform
  • Working knowledge of Enterprise management platforms such as Spectrum, SevOne, etc

Preferred Experience:

  • Expert knowledge of Load Balancing platforms - F5 or AVI / VMWare
  • Working knowledge of scripting language (Python, Ansible)
  • Experience of working within a large multi-site, multi-protocol LAN & WAN
